Blogging is not just for Professionals, It's About You!

Experts in Web Development and Social Media are saying that Blogging is good for Business. It's a very effective way to be more successful in your career and professional life. But I feel there is more to blogging than that. Can there be more intrinsic value in typing your thoughts out for the world to read? Lets look at the experts first!

It's good for your career. Employers can use your blog as an insight into what kind of employee you'll be. If you blog about your particular career field it will demonstrate your knowledge and expertise. Blogging is also good for Search Engine Optimization (Not sponsored by BlueHost) allowing more people to find your blog, your website, and your professional persona. As a Graphic Designer and a Web Developer, I can see that these are all very good reasons to blog, and what the Experts say are the best reasons... but I feel it's one of the weakest ones, there is more to be gained by blogging.

You'll develop meaningful growth. Blogging is a great way to become a better writer, a more concise thinker, and allow you to gain meaning and insight into your own life. As you blog more, you will be able to more effectively convey your feelings and emotions to others. You'll also better define your own identity, and better understand your own beliefs as you write them, read them, re-read them, and revisit them months or years later. You'll be able to see your growth as writer and as a person.

Blogging is an Indestructible Journal. Because everything is on the Internet, and can be backed up and share on multiple platforms, it is one of the safest ways to store your thoughts and feelings. A physical journal can be lost, burned, or stolen; But your blog will always be yours, and if you save it in multiple places, it can never be taken away.

It's a Collaborative Experience. Unlike a journal which is almost never seen by anyone, a blog is read by many people. If you allow comments and criticism on your blog, you'll be able to get instant feedback on your work. This allows you to share information with others and your blog turns from a simply E-Journal into a buzzing hub of shared learning and community.

Here are some tips on how to make your Blogs easier to read:

• Break up your ideas into bite sized sections.
• Use headings that summarize your sections' ideas.
• Stay casual and develop your own style and personality.
• Pepper your blog with Keywords.
• Use lists to distill information. (Haha, how meta)

Write about things that interest you! Start A Blog Today!
Ge ahead and make a blog, and write about anything you wish. You'll begin to discover who you are, and who you want to be; And along the way you'll develop and grow!

Snap Decisions with Blogging Tools

User Comfort is more important than features!

Choosing a blogging service that is right for you!

After researching three different blogging services, I chose Blogger (aka: Blogspot). The reason for this is because I already have a "Professional" Google Account that I can tie my name to.

WordPress, Snapchat, and Blogger were the three services that stuck out in my mind during my research. They weren't the only ones I looked at, but these three highlight the importance of User Comfort when exploring a new platform for personal expression.

WordPress: 

Out of all the blogging services I looked at, WordPress was the most impressive in terms of features and customization. WordPress makes expressing yourself easy with Plugins for different web-based technology to one-click-and-it's-up Themes to truly make the site your own! But that's not all, you can also host your own hand built website from WordPress, and create themes for yourself and others.

With a comprehensive feature list, unlimited possibilities, and glowing reviews, WordPress really blew my mind!

Snapchat: 

I had heard a lot of good things from Snapchat. It seems everyone uses it, from celebrities and radio DJs, to everyday bloggers. The ability to share content with other people is important for building an online community.

However, when I went to Snapchat, this is what I found.

... WHAT?!?!
Where is the content, where is the homepage! Where is ANYTHING???

This was most likely just a hiccup, some small little problem that could easily be fixed within minutes. But at the time of this writing I still cannot get Snapchat to respond, and as a first time blogger that seriously impacts my trust that my blog will be online reliably.

NOPE! Spock help be out!

Spelling mistakes are fun unprofessional

Blogger:

Because Blogger is tied to your Google Account, and the fact I am lazy have a professional Email Account for business, and that Blogger is easy to set up; it was a no-brainer.

Are there superior services to Blogger? Yes
Are there better ways to express myself? Yes
Do the fancy features outshine ease of use and user comfort? NO

Snapchat not only failed to capture my interest, it out right scared me away. And that is a major issue, and highlights that a user's First Hand Experience with your product or service is the most important, and being reliable and welcoming is paramount!

Otherwise the user will make a Snap Decision
